About the event
Paddle into the heart of one of Connecticut’s hidden natural treasures. As we glide quietly along the narrow, meandering river, the landscape shifts into a peaceful, green tunnel. Towering silver maples, catalpa, and shagbark hickories lean over the riverbanks, creating dappled patterns of light and shade on the water.
This part of the Mattabesset is a haven for wildlife. Great blue herons rise silently from the shallows, painted turtles slip off sunlit logs, and belted kingfishers perch on overhead branches. Look carefully and you might spot a muskrat swimming along the bank.
